
SHERMAN, Texas (July 6th, 2024) – The Sherman Shadowcats late comeback heroics came up short for the second game in a row as they lost 7-5 in the final game of the series against the Texarkana Rhinos.
Clayton Merritt (Texas A&M Texarkana) started the game hot for the Shadowcats in the first three innings as he only gave up one run off of a Rylan Evans (Univ. of the Pacific) homer to make it 1-0 Rhinos going into the third.
Sherman answered right back as Matt Herrera (Centenary) hit a two RBI single in the bottom of the third to take a 2-1 lead.
Texarakana found their stride in the middle innings as they scored six runs unanswered started by Jackson Glymph (Blinn College) to take a 7-2 Rhinos lead going into the bottom of the seventh.
The Shadowcats found three runs in the bottom of the seventh after Herrera smoked a two RBI double to cut the deficit to 7-5.
After two solid innings pitched by Hudson Parker (Texas Tech) shutting the Rhinos down, the Shadowcats attempted a rally in the bottom of the ninth. Zach Henry (UTA) reached on a fielders choice and was moved to third by Herrera who hit a single with an error on the play to put him on second. Easton Ford (Redlands CC) came up with two outs down by two and smoked a ball down the right field line that barely landed in foul territory and then struck out swinging to end the ballgame.
The Shadowcats fall to 13-24 while the Rhinos advance to 16-20. Next up, Sherman heads on a seven game road trip starting at Piney Woods on Tuesday July 9. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
