ABILENE, Texas (July 21, 2024) — The Sherman Shadowcats ended their losing streak with a thrilling 10-9 win over the Abilene Flying Bison in the final game of their three-game series at Walt Driggers Field. Despite losing the first two games and the series, the Shadowcats’ offensive burst tonight secured their first win of the series.

The game commenced on time with no weather delays. Sherman jumped to an early lead in the first inning. Left Fielder Ryan Sessions (Redlands CC) scored on a sacrifice fly by Third Baseman Anderson Acinger (LSU-Shreveport), followed by a two-run double from Catcher Hudson Parker (Texas Tech), bringing in First Baseman Korson Hastings (Trinity) and Designated Hitter Tyson Woodland (Centenary). Shortstop Jacob Eccles (Southwestern) reached on an error, allowing Parker to score, capping the inning at 4-0.

Abilene answered back in their half of the inning with a single by Outfielder Andrew Detlefsen (Dodge City CC), driving in a run to make it 4-1. In the second inning, Sherman extended their lead to 5-1 after Sessions scored on an error by the catcher. The Shadowcats continued their offensive display in the fifth inning with another two-run double by Parker, scoring Acinger and Hastings, and a single by Outfielder Jacob Cruz (Navarro) bringing in Parker to stretch the lead to 8-2.

However, the Flying Bison clawed back with runs in the fifth, sixth, and a four-run seventh inning, tying the game at 8-8. A series of singles, sacrifices, and errors allowed Abilene to close the gap. In the eighth, Woodland scored on a double by Second Baseman Cayden Earnhart (ETBU) to regain the lead for Sherman, but the Flying Bison tied it again in the bottom half with a single by Outfielder Mason Krznarich (Three Rivers CC). The decisive moment came in the ninth inning when Eccles singled and later scored on a single by Outfielder Sandry Hernandez (Rockies DSL), securing the 10-9 victory for the Shadowcats.
