SHERMAN, Texas (June 22nd, 2024) – The Sherman Shadowcats exploded on Saturday night as they secured the series win over the Abilene Flying Bison with the final score of 21-13.

Box Score

The Shadowcats started off hot in the bottom of the first scoring six runs on three hits. Matt Herrera (Centenary) and Cayden Earnhart each hit RBI singles, as Korson Hastings smacked a two RBI double. Sandry Hernandez (Rockies DSL) rounded out the scoring as he drew an RBI walk to put the Shadowcats on top 6-0.

Abilene answered right back in the top of the second with six runs of their own as they rallied five hits in a row to make the score 6-6.

In the bottom of the second Sherman scored two runs from back to back RBI singles by Alex Rangel (Dallas College Brookhaven) and Earnhart to take a Shadowcat 8-6 lead.

Abilene and Sherman scored two runs each in the third putting Sherman in front 10-8.

After a run by Abilene in the top of the fourth, the Shadowcats scored nine runs over the course of the fifth and the sixth with the most notable run coming from Cayden Earnhart as he hit a solo shot that hit the scoreboard in left field. The Sherman lead was 19-9 with a chance to run-rule the Flying Bison in the seventh.

All Sherman needed was three out to secure a run-rule victory, however Abilene had different plans as Austin Munguia (New Mexico) hit a solo home run to make it a 19-10 ball game extending the game to at least the bottom of the seventh.

Sherman was unable to capitalize on the run rule potential as they went scoreless in the seventh, then gave up three runs over the course of the eighth and ninth to win the game 21-13.

The win secured a series victory over the top team in the Mid-America League for the Shadowcats. Sherman advances to 9-12, while Abilene falls to 18-8.

The Sherman Shadowcats are set to take on a 11 game road stand starting with back to back doubleheaders against Texarkana on Sunday and Monday. First pitch for the first game of the doubleheader on Sunday, June 23 is set for 6:05 p.m with the second game to immediately follow at George Dobson Field.
