SHERMAN, Texas (June 19th, 2024) – The Sherman Shadowcats dropped a 10-3 game against the Texarkana Rhinos on Wednesday night.
After a scoreless first inning the Rhinos got on the board first in the second. A fielder’s choice scored Ian Guanzon (San Joaquin Delta College), followed by two passed balls brought in Gabriel Natividad (San Joaquin Delta College), and Antonio Sabala (Oklahoma Christian) to make the score 3-0, Rhinos on top.
The Shadowcats answered in the bottom of the third as Cayden Earnhart (East Texas Baptist) scored on a balk to cut the Rhinos lead to 3-1.
In the top of the fourth, Texarkana tagged along four more runs as Wyatt Cunningham (Univ. Of Montevallo) smacked a two RBI single, followed by a Shadowcat fielding error allowing two more runs to score, escalating the Rhinos lead to 7-1.
Sherman plated a run in the bottom of the third as Alex Rangel (Dallas College Brookhaven) smoked an RBI double before being thrown at at third base to make the score 7-2, Rhinos lead.
Texarkana did not slow down as they brought in a run in the top of the seventh as Guanzon hit a sacrifice fly to center field advancing the Rhinos lead to 8-1.
The final two runs for the Rhinos came in the bottom of the ninth as Sabala ripped a two RBI single to make it 10-2.
The Shadowcats were looking for a rally in the bottom of the ninth as the first two batters walked, followed by a Korson Hastings (Trinity) run on a passed ball, but that would be all she wrote as Sherman ended up falling 10-3.
Mason Sellers (Central Baptist College) secured the win for the Rhinos as he pitched six innings, giving up three hits, and two runs. Ty Howry was given the loss as he went five innings, giving up seven runs, four of which went unearned.
The Shadowcats fall to 7-11 as the Rhinos overtake them in the standings advancing to 7-10. Sherman takes on Abilene in a three game series on Thursday, June 20. First pitch set at 7:05 p.m.
