WHITE OAK, Texas (June 26, 2024) – The Sherman Shadowcats struggled in their road game Tuesday night, falling 9-1 to the Piney Woods Timberhogs at Roughneck Stadium. The loss marks a difficult start to their 11-game road trip, despite their recent success in securing the third seed in the league.

Box Score

The Timberhogs took command early, piling on the runs and holding the Shadowcats at bay. Piney Woods opened the scoring in the first inning when Right Fielder Juan Murillo (Padres RK) singled to left, driving in Shortstop A. J. Smith, Jr. (Bethune-Cookman) and Infielder Charles Chatman III (Knox College) for a quick 2-0 lead.

The Timberhogs extended their lead in the second inning. Center Fielder Cermodrick Bland (Stephen F. Austin) reached on a fielder’s choice, scoring Designated Hitter Gage Goddard (Arkansas State University Mountain Home). The third inning saw Catcher Corbin Montayne (Ranger Junior College) score on an error, making it 4-0.

The fourth inning proved decisive as Murillo hit a three-run homer, bringing home Bland and Smith, Jr., to stretch the lead to 7-0. Piney Woods added two more runs in the fifth, capped by Murillo’s RBI single, pushing the score to 9-0.

Sherman managed to score their lone run in the eighth inning. Center Fielder Sandry Hernandez (Colorado Rockies DSL) doubled to drive in Second Baseman Kaleb Castillo (Western Texas College), but it was too little, too late for the Shadowcats.
