Sherman, Texas (June 12th, 2024) – The Sherman Shadowcats fell on Wednesday night as they faced the Fort Smith Marshals in game two of a three game series, 13-3. Fort Smith was able to get out early as they forced the 10 run lead after seven innings run rule while the Shadowcats committed six errors.

Fort Smith got in front first as they scored nine runs in the top of the second inning. Eight of those nine runs went to Shadowcats starter Ty Howry (Cisco JC) however four of those eight went unearned.

Sherman looked to answer quickly in the bottom of the second but could only muster one run as Ryan Sessions (Redlands CC) started the inning with a walk, followed by a Dillon Flores (St. Edwards) single. Cole Carnes (Fort Scott CC) then walked to load the bases for Jacob Eccles (Southwestern) who ripped a base hit to left field which brought in Sessions to make the score 9-1 Fort Smith after two innings.

Solid pitching from both sides in the third put the ball back into Fort Smith’s court as they scored another run on a Dillin Lopez (St. Mary’s) sacrifice fly to right field to score CJ Snowden (South Mountain CC) and take a 10-1 lead.

After the Shadowcats couldn’t find anything in the bottom of the fourth, the Marshals pulled out ahead even more. Fort Smith loaded the bases and Snowden drew a walk to bring home Tre’en Dorsett (Stillman College). A wild pitch from Tyler Carnes (Fort Scott CC) then brought home Keypher Contreras DeLeon, and Lopez rounded out the scoring for Fort Smith with an RBI single that scored Eli Merritt (Hastings College) to make the score 13-1.

Jonathan Brzezicki (Nichols College) pitched a sound sixth and seventh to help his team maintain a chance to not get run ruled. In the bottom of the seventh the Shadowcats made an attempt at a rally as Sandry Hernandez (Rockies DSL) singled to bring up Jaylan Prince (Texas A&M Texarkana). Prince hit a ball right back to Fort Smith pitcher Braden Quesinberry (Harding 21’) who attempted to throw Hernandez out at second but the ball ricocheted off of a Marshals player and into left field. That allowed Hernandez to move to third, and as the Marshals were slowly collecting themselves Hernandez made a sly move to home plate where he got in safely. That would be all the Shadowcats wrote as they were unable to get out of the run rule, losing 13-3 after seven innings of play.

Sherman plays the series finale on Thursday, June 13th with a chance to win the series 2-1. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
