SHERMAN, Texas (July 5th, 2024) – The Sherman Shadowcats made a solid comeback on Friday night against the Texarkana Rhinos as they went from being down by five to winning 16-10.
Texarkana shot out front first with three runs in the second inning capped off by a Gabe Natividad (San Joaquin Delta College) RBI double to make it 3-0.
The Rhinos stayed ahead adding two runs in the fourth as Sebastian Huerta (Western Texas College) hit a two RBI single to make the score 5-0, Rhinos.
The Shadowcats brought it within two runs in the fourth after scoring three runs as Hernandez brought in a run from an RBI single, followed by a wild pitch and a fielder’s choice that cut the deficit to 5-3.
Texarkana jumped back out by five after scoring three runs in the fifth from two wild pitches and a sacrifice fly to make the score 8-3.
Sherman then exploded scoring seven runs in the fifth and six runs in the sixth to jump out in front 16-8 ultimately to end their eight game losing streak.
Texarkana scored two more runs in the top of the eighth but it was too little too late allowing the Shadowcats to claim the 16-10 victory.
Anderson Acinger (LSU-Shreveport) was massive in the Shadowcats win as he went 3-for-5 with three stand up doubles and a walk to bring Shermans record to 13-22, and 10-10 at home. The Rhinos drop to 14-20, and 9-12 on the road.
In order for the Shadowcats to win the series they have to win their next two games against the Rhinos. The games will be played on Saturday July 6, and Sunday July 7 with the first pitches both set at 7:05.
