Sherman, Texas (July 18, 2024) – The Sherman Shadowcats walked off a pitching duel over the Piney Woods TimberHogs on Thursday Night 5-4.

A slow start to the game thanks to Israel Diaz (Western Oklahoma State) of the Shadowcats and Cade Medlin (Arkansas Little Rock) of the TimberHogs went six innings on the mound each. Diaz finished his day giving up two hits, while not allowing any runs while striking out four batters.

The first runs did not come until the fourth inning as Jacob Cruz (Navarro) eked out a two BRI blooper into left field to take a 2-0 lead for the Shadowcats.

Piney Woods fought back in the seventh and eighth as they scored four runs to take a 4-2 lead.

The Shadowcats shut down the TimberHogs after Charlie Gardner (Silo HS) delivered two no hit, no run innings while striking out five batters.

Gardener set up the Shadowcats as they scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth as Cruz hit an RBI single as Tyson Woodland (Centanary) followed with a bases loaded walk to tie the game 4-4 after the eighth.

The bottom of the ninth was magical for the Shadowcats as Ryan Sessions (Arkansas-Monticello) singled, and Anderson Acinger (LSU-Shreveport reached on an error to set up Rey Plasencia who smoked a Walk-Off double to deep right field that secured a 5-4 victory for the Shadowcats.

The Shadowcats advance to 18-28 as the TimberHogs fall to 20-25. Next up, Sherman heads east for a three game series in Abilene against the Flying Bison.
